Social Security: Getting the Most for You and Your Family // Nexus Wealth Management

My name is Robert Montes and I’m the owner of Nexus Wealth Management in beautiful Missoula, Montana. My team of advisors and I work with hundreds of households and manage over 1200 client accounts. Throughout my 17 year career working in the wealth management space, I see certain, recurring mistakes that people make over and over again. That’s why I decided to take the time to write practical, common-sense overviews on some of the most pressing financial questions people encounter. My goal with these mini-ebooks is simple and that is to give you, the reader, the information you need to make informed decisions without having to spend hours upon hours researching and reading huge books. I want to provide you with the things that actually matter and provide you with a solid foundation which will empower you to have an educated conversation with your advisory team (which we’d love to be if you’re not already a client of ours!).

It’s baffling to me that we learn so little about money as we progress through life. I love the memes online that people will post about how we all learned and still remember The Pythagorean Theorem (you probably to this day can recall that a² + b² = c² on a right triangle!), yet if I were to ask you about your education in things like taxes, investments, or credit - you’d probably have very little to reference.  This is especially the case with Social Security.

Think about it, the average married household taking Social Security at age 67 will receive around $50,000 per year in benefits. To put this in perspective, that same couple would need $1 million dollars averaging 5% invested to produce the same income. Add to this that Social Security has guaranteed cost of living adjustments built in to maintain purchasing power and it’s easy to see how for many families, Social Security is their largest retirement benefit. But if you’re like most people, when you ask yourself “How much do I really know about maximizing this benefit” the answer is probably very little. And getting help isn’t always easy. I once heard a gentleman say that calling the Social Security Administration hotline for tips on maximizing your benefits was a lot like calling the IRS to ask them how you can pay less in taxes. The sad thing is that he’s right. So, while this mini-ebook won’t cover every nuance that exists, what it will do is provide you with a solid foundation you can build on and complete in one session. After reading this, you’ll be able to have an informed conversation with your advisory team and be in a much better position to make some of your most important financial decisions.

I hope you find this helpful and that it empowers you to make more informed decisions. You’ve worked hard for this benefit, now it’s time to make sure you make the most of it! If there’s any questions you have that our team can assist you with regarding Social Security questions, or your financial planning as a whole, please feel free to use us as a value added resource.

Thank you again!
